The role of Inland Revenue is to collect most of the revenue that government needs to fund its programmes. Inland Revenue also administers a number of social support programmes.

In 2007 Inland Revenue NZ assisted Citizens Advice Bureau NZ (CABNZ) to prepare our application to the Digital Strategy Community Partnership Fund (a fund administered by the Department of Internal Affairs) for funding for our technology project, the Digital Strategy Project. The purpose of our Digital Strategy Project was to enable the CAB to develop a new technology platform and thus enhance our service to the public. The assistance provided by Inland Revenue was key to the subsequent success of our application.
CABNZ went on to establish a formal partnership with Inland Revenue for our Digital Strategy Project under the terms of reference of the Digital Strategy Community Partnership Fund. As a partner to our Digital Strategy Project, Inland Revenue continued to support CABNZ through the implementation phase of our Project. Inland Revenue contributed valuable expertise and advice in relation to key aspects of the project and participated in the governance body, helping to make the project a success.
