Our structure

Bureau and Branches

Each service location is either a bureau in its own right or it is a branch of a bureau – in recent years some clusters of bureaux have merged into a single administrative entity but with multiple service locations.

We have a wide coverage throughout New Zealand with over 90 service locations around the country from the far north to Invercargill, in major metropolitan areas and in small, rural communities.

Each bureau is an incorporated not for profit organisation, operated by local community volunteers. Each bureau has a Management Committee or Board of elected volunteers who plan, govern and promote their CAB.  Some bureaux have paid staff who support the management of the bureau.

Regions

The CAB is divided into four regions – North, Waikato-Bay of Plenty, Central and South.  Our regions provide a link between bureaux and national office and are the central point of contact for the CAB at a regional level.

Citizens Advice Bureau New Zealand

Each bureau is a member of our national body, the Citizens Advice Bureaux New Zealand (CABNZ or the Association).

To be a member of the Association, a bureau must meet a set of standards to ensure the delivery of a consistent and quality service.

CABNZ supports its member bureaux through the provision of:

  • An information system to support Bureau Interviewers in providing the CAB service to clients, including a national database resources and organisations
  • IT support for bureau
  • Learning and development
  • Membership Principles, policies and procedures
