In an emergency like an earthquake, flood, fire or tsunami, you want to know as soon as possible if you might be affected, so that you can take action to protect yourself and your loved ones.
That is why the Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management Te Rākau Whakamarumaru (MCDEM) is running another nationwide test of the Emergency Mobile Alert system.
What is the Emergency Mobile Alert system?
The Emergency Mobile Alert system works by sending a message to all compatible smartphones in a specific area. In a genuine emergency the message will include information about what the emergency is, what to do, and where to go for more information.
When exactly will the test message be broadcast?
The nationwide test will take place between 6pm and 7pm on 25 November.
More information about the test is on the MCDEM website.
