Who are we and what do we do?

Th
e New Zealand Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux is an independent community organisation whose member bureaux and specialist services around New Zealand provide information, advice, advocacy and support to individuals.  Our services are free, impartial and confidential.  Our bureaux have a comprehensive and regularly updated referral database and information resources which help our volunteers to help you.

Where are we?

We provide the CAB service from 90 locations around New Zealand from the Far North to Invercargill, and also via a freephone number (0800 FOR CAB) which ensures no cost to any phone caller.

Our aims are to:

  • Ensure that individuals do not suffer through ignorance of their rights and responsibilities, or of the services available; or through an inability to express their needs effectively.

Me noho matära kia kaua te tangata e mate i töna kore möhio ki ngä ähuatanga e ähei atu ana ia, ki ngä mahi ränei e tika ana kia mahia e ia, ki ngä ratonga ränei e ähei atu ana ia; i te kore ränei ona e ähei ki te whakaputu i öna hiahia kia märama mai ai te tangata.

  • Exert a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services, both locally and nationally.

Kia tino whawahi atu ki te auahatanga o nga kaupapa-a-iwi me nga ratonga-a-rohe, puta noa hoki i te motu.

What else do we do?

We also act as a public watchdog for those who cannot do this for themselves.

We are committed to the responsible use of the information we receive to build a picture of what is affecting our communities, regionally and nationally.

Over our 30+ year history, we have become a respected voice. We are trusted as informed and professional advocates of those who are disadvantaged or unfairly treated.

CAB Awareness Week

Awareness Week was from March 12th to 18th and the focus was on the theme of diversity.  We were celebrating the diversity of the CAB - our clients, our volunteers, our communities, and the services we provide.

Awareness week was a time for celebration and it is also a time when we reach out to the public with the aim of letting them know about us and our services, and to encourage people to think about becoming a CAB volunteer.
